If you aren’t in Australia, you may not know that our government still does not allow Same Sex Marriage in our country.
They have consistently refused to vote on this in parliament, and have instead ended up holding a non-binding, voluntary postal ‘vote’ (actually, a survey), which will ask every enrolled Australian the question ‘should the law be changed to allow same sex couples to marry?’
This occured because they – twice – had a bill for a binding plebecite struck down in the Senate, because we shouldn’t have to ‘vote’ on this issue. Because we were afraid that this process would harm LGBTQI+ Australians who would be exposed to a torrent of hatred.
And, sadly, that is exactly what is happening.
I don’t think it will come as any surprise to those who know us that Nick and I are 100% in favour of Marriage Equality in our country – and, hopefully, one day, all over the world.
We have been honoured to craft many hundreds of wedding and commitment rings for LGBTQI+ couples all over the world in the years past. The photos on this page illustrate a few of the lovely couples we have been proud to work with.
We firmly believe that it will happen in our country. Whether it is now, or later – it will happen.
I will be voting yes. Nick isn’t allowed to vote, as he is not yet a citizen, but if he could, he would be voting yes, too.
At the marriage equality rally in Brisbane last weekend, I was filled with joy and hope to see so many people join together in support of changing this unjust law.
I feel very strongly about this topic – about the right of every adult to marry the person they love.
Not because I’m in the wedding industry (as some cynics may say).
Not even because I know a number of LGBTQI+ people who have suffered because they have been persecuted, hidden their orientation from their families, or been coerced into conversion therapy right here in Australia. And I do.
It’s simply because it is the right thing. The just thing.
Family is what you make it. And every LGBTQI+ family in Australia deserves the right to have their family recognised in law.
So, Nick and I are off to the UK again!
This year, the shop will be shut for just over a month and a half while we attend the wedding of 2 dear friends, do a self-drive tour of Scotland, visit Nick’s parents and family, and generally catch up with all our loved ones who are on the other side of the world.
The shop will be closing on June 12, and re-opening on August 1, 2017.
If you need a wedding ring (or any other item of jewellery) before the end of August, please make sure to place your order before we close to ensure we have enough time to make and ship it before we fly out.
We’re planning to visit Scotland for about 10 days – I’ve been wanting to go to Edinburgh since the first time we visited the UK, but it hasn’t happened before now. If you have any suggestions of must-see places, please share them with me! Nick’s mum is Scottish, and grew up in Edinburgh, so he went up there lots as a kid, but he hasn’t really explored Scotland at all beyond the city.
We’re keen for interesting castles, stunning scenery, and good hikes. Hopefully we’ll be lucky and get some clear days while we’re up there.
Hello world, and hello April!
I just love April. Here at home autumn finally kicks in, the days (and nights) start cooling down, and there are usually endless blue skies.
It probably doesn’t hurt that it’s my birthday month, too 😀
This month’s special is the Two-Tone Geo Earrings – a lovely modern design that are light and comfortable to wear, and will give a little snazz to any outfit.
They’re normally $49 AUD – this month, they’re just $36.75 AUD.
Nick and I hope you have a wonderful month!
Hello friends! This month we’ve put a classic Epheriell design on special – the Streamlined Earrings. Both the classic silver and the more recent oxidised versions are on special.
They are 25% off for the whole of March, 2017!
These are a personal favourite of mine – they are my ‘go-to’ earrings when I’m in a hurry, or when I just want a pair to quickly throw on. They go with pretty much anything – from jeans and a tee, right up to a fancy cocktail dress.
Here’s a shot of me wearing them on my birthday a few years back!
Happy New Year!
It’s Monday morning here in Queensland, and it’s back to work for Nick and I today.
We’ve re-opened the shops, and are ready and waiting to craft some beautiful things in the next few weeks… until we close again!
Yes, we’re only open again for the next 10 days, before we need to close the shops for a few weeks for our long-anticipated trip to Japan. It will be 3 weeks of cities and snow, and I can’t wait 😀 So, I wanted to send you this reminder:
For our Japan trip, we’ll be closed:
Jan 13 – Feb 15
We had a lovely Christmas/New Year break with family and friends (and lots of reading and gaming in our downtime, nerds that we are).
We hope you had a wonderful holiday season, too, and that 2017 has awesome things in store for you!
Happy New Year,
Jess + Nick
P. S. Also a bit of advanced notice that we’re off to England, Europe, and Canada later this year – around June/July – so if you’re planning a Northern Hemisphere summer wedding, or a southern Hemisphere winter wedding, please make sure you’ve put in your ring orders by mid-May to ensure you will be able to get them in time! I’ll give you exact dates when we’ve booked our flights.
Hello lovely reader!
It’s the busiest time of year for handmade businesses, but I wanted to pop in and let you know about our upcoming holiday closures, to ensure you don’t miss out on ordering a piece of jewellery that you were planning on buying from us!
We will be closing:
Dec 20 – Dec 31
For a Christmas break.
We are also off on an adventure in early 2017 – Nick and I are heading over to Japan for three weeks with a bunch of friends! We’re going to explore Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, and then head to the ski fields near Nagano for a week. I’m so excited – I’ve never been to Japan before (Nick has though) and I’ve not ever gone skiing, either, though I have snowboarded.
SO! For our Japan trip, we’ll be closed:
Jan 13 – Feb 15
Also a bit of advanced notice that we’re off to England, Europe, and Canada later this year – around June/July – so if you’re planning a Northern Hemisphere summer wedding, or a southern Hemisphere winter wedding, please make sure you’ve put in your ring orders by mid-May to ensure you will be able to get them in time! I hope you’re having a lovely December, and that you have a wonderful Christmas/New Year season!
Hello lovely people!
Just a quick note to let you know our order cut-off dates for Christmas this year.
Order by December 5th
Order by November 21st
Any orders placed after these dates will not be guaranteed to arrive prior to Christmas!
Happy shopping for all the loves in your life.
Jess & Nick x
Today we’ve got a video for you that shows you exactly how we create our handmade sterling silver rings.
If you’ve ever wondered about the process, wonder no more!
We take you through the process of cutting out the silver, annealing it, forming the ring, soldering, and more.
It’s a little behind-the-scenes peek at what we get up to every day.

Nick and I have some exciting news – we’ve bought a house!
Here’s a little peek at it from one side…
It’s a beautiful home in the Sunshine Coast hinterland – with enough bedrooms for us to each have our own office, and an enclosed space under the house that will become the new Epheriell jewellery studio. It’s even got a second lounge that’s going to become my yoga studio (squee!) and a big separate shed that will be Nick’s lair.
After living and working in just 2 rooms for the past 6 years, it’s going to be quite a change. We joked that we’ll need walkie talkies to speak to each other ;D
We were originally going to build on my parent’s land, but we decided to also see what was out there – and when we saw this place, we fell in love 🙂
So! We have to pack up our home and our studio to move into our new digs.
That means we’re going to be closing down the shops for a few weeks so we can focus on the move, and getting everything set up properly.
Epheriell will therefore be closed from Wednesday March 30 to Wednesday April 13.
If we manage to get ourselves set up earlier, we’ll re-open earlier, but we’ve giving ourselves a good window so we have time to finish any outstanding orders before we pack up the studio, move, do some painting, re-set up the studio and buy a few new bits and pieces for the house, and get settled in.
If you need to order a wedding ring from us, please ensure that you do so before we close (and remember, these dates are in Aussie time, so if you’re in the UK or the US, it will be the day before for you). Since we’re packing everything up and moving it, we really won’t be able to make any exceptions during the closure.
All orders placed before we close will be completed and posted within 5 business days of the closure date.
We’ll share photos of the new house and studio once we re-open!
See you then,
Jess & Nick
So, I occasionally stalk the best Aussie wedding blogs to see if Epheriell happens to pop up.
I was stoked when I found this feature of Ally + Matt’s wedding on Hello May – because we made Matt’s ring!
The ring Matt wears is our 6mm flat sterling silver oxidised band.
